This is JP’s weekly opportunity to be an unabashed homer and focus completely on USC football, in attempt to provide insight and/or analysis.
USC is lucky to be #2 in the AP Poll
I really don’t understand why USC fans are so up in arms about being jumped by LSU in the AP poll. They should’ve lost against the Huskies and right now, LSU is better. So are Cal and Ohio State. Heck, even South Florida is better. The key word is right now. One thing that sets USC apart is that they get better every week of the season in the Pete Carroll era (sans the UCLA slip-up last year). This team will be better in 2 weeks. How good CAN they be is another question altogether.
The Washington game was a step in the right direction
Every championship caliber team has a game like this that they manage to win. OK teams have 2-3 and lose one of them. Another game like this one would be a bad sign, regardless of circumstances, even if they win. But as of right now, I’ll take it as a growing pain for a very good team. Pete Carroll will use it as a character-building opportunity and get the Trojans back on track.
