Bill Parcells and the Dolphins have made a promise to fans to look everywhere to find a viable quarterback. So in keeping with that promise the Tuna has brought Quincy Carter in to camp for a workout.
For those of you with memory issues(insert pot joke here), Q-car was the Georgia Bulldogs QB drafted a couple of rounds too early by Jerry Jones. During the Campo days he ended up starting for the Boys. But then again so did Chad Hutchinson, Clint Stoener and Ryan Leaf, so I don’t know how great that is.
In 2003 Bill Parcells moved in to the Coaches offense and graciously allowed Quincy to stay in the starting role. With Carter and halfback Troy Hambrick providing the offensive side of the ball…and the word offensive works both ways, the Cowboys went 10-6 and saw some post season action. They were eliminated by the Jake Delhomme (by the way what ever happened to him) led Panthers who would eventually win the NFC Championship and only lose the Super Bowl by 3 points to those “squeaky clean” Patriots.
In the ’04 training camp Quincy was released after Jerry and Bill discovered that Quincy had a problem with dime bags that they were afraid could hurt his ability to deal with dime defenses. Plus, Bill had just picked his old quarterback, and the word old can work a couple of ways too, Vinny Testaverde, who actually played on the same team as Parcells in college, I think.
Carter moved on to back up Chad “arm strength ain’t my strength” Pennington with the Jets. He even started 3 games when Pennington (here’s a surprise) had rotater cuff issues. The Jets even one 2 of them. But Mary Jane had moved to Jersey with Q-car and he was released again.
Quincy has bounced around from Canada to the Arena League and even the Arena League 2. But where ever he went Doritos’s sells spiked but Carter’s stock didn’t. He was even reportedly bailed out of jail in Dallas by a sports columnist for the Ft. Worth Star Telegram. But all reports of late have Quincy getting back on track.
Quincy, good luck….and Stay away from Ricky Williams at Dolphins camp.
