The perks of being a big time blogger

1. Is the Mountain West better than the Pac-10?
The fact that we can even discuss this question should say it all. Oregon is one injury away from holding a hippy-filled open tryout for a new quarterback or commissioning Phil Knight to construct a cyborg QB and they’re still the second best team in the conference. Their loss to Boise State is indicative of the sorry state of Pac-10 football. BYU, Boise State, Fresno State, and even TCU could compete for second place at this point. As much as it pains me to say so, this conference is USC and the 9 dwarfs. And with the Trojans propensity for dropping at least one inexplicable game each season, the West Coast could legitimately be left outside of the national title picture.

2. Will Pryor and Wells lead the Ohio State plow through the Big-11 starting this week?

Yes.  Now that Beanie Wells is expected back from injury and Terrelle Pryor has been granted starter status,  the roll is on.  The destruction at the Coliseum is exactly what the Buckeyes needed to motivate them.  If those two had been prominently involved the entire game, it would have been much more interesting.  Now, I know what you’re saying, “If the whoopin’ they received at the hands of the SEC in the last two national championship games didn’t motivate them, how will this whoopin’ from USC motivate them?” Motivation only goes so far.  Motivation and talent goes further.

I wasn’t completely sold on the difference that Pryor could make in a game this early in his college career.  It seems pretty clear now that he is that much of a difference maker.  Ohio State doesn’t have much depth at running back, which has been clearly evident in their last three games.  (Remember, Herron’s 94 yards last week came against the Sun Belt Trojans.)  So Beanie must stay healthy.  The defense can handle the offenses of the conference.  The skill and power of Wells and the unpredictability of Pryror will give the rest of OSU’s opponents fits.  Good luck Lions and Badgers.

3.  Will I be hungover at work on Friday?

Signs point to yes.  This is the first time in years that USC is playing on a Thursday night.  I cannot remember it ever happening, actually.  Thursday night games are great if you still happen to be a student.  Or if you don’t have to go to work on Friday morning.  Sadly, very sadly, neither of those scenarios apply to me.  I will watch the game with my girlfriend and my dog and beer.  I will get riled up.  I will drink beer.  I will replay vicious tackles on the DVR.  I will drink beer.  I will try not to freak my dog out too much with all the yelling and carrying on.  I will probably do something utterly stupid over and over just because I think it’s lucky.  I will drink beer.  I will go to bed wishing that I don’t have to go to work in the morning.  I will be hungover.
