A lot has been/is going on in the sports world right now, and I’ll take a quick stab at analyzing each of them.
Baseball playoffs start in, like, 20 minutes.
I love baseball, and follow the season closely for the entire 162 game schedule. Most people? Not so much. However, now is when everyone starts paying attentin and shares my love of the game. My picks in the divisional series? Yankees, Angels, Doyers (<— homer pick), Phils. Speaking of the Yankees…
Yankees hi-five as Twins win.
And why wouldn’t they? The twins go extra innings and the Yankees just happened to have selected for the series to start the next day. So after completely exhausting it’s players, Minnesota has to turn around and travel to play a team they haven’t beaten all season (Yankees won season series 7-0) in less than 24 hours. Even all that aside, the Yankees were probably pulling for the Twins before the game even started. The Tigers, I believe, would have presented a bigger challenge for the Yanks. They have a true ace (Verlander) which the Twins don’t. They have an MVP candidate (Cabrera), which granted, the Twins do too (Mauer), but the Tigers have the kind of line-up that can get hot and do some real damage. We know what the Twins lineup will bring to the table: smart, aggresive baseball with some timely hitting. The Tigers have the kind of lineup that could rival the Yanks formidable one should they choose to wake up and play to their potential.
Braylon goes bye-bye.
Traded to the Jets. By the way, how many deals is Mangini going to make with his old team? Anyone else (namely league officials) find it a bit funny that Mangini and his former coworkers seem so eager to work together? Anyways, back to Edwards. My buddy texted me this morning and asked if he should pick him up in his fantasy league. I was basically ‘meh’ on the prospect. I do think Edwards just became the most purely talented receiver on the Jets roster, but he’s been known to have the dropsies, not work hard, and he doesn’t know the offense. That doesn’t make him an automatic pickup in my book, nor does it really increase the Jets’ chance of winning the Super Bowl. See also: Williams, Roy.
Crabtree Signs
Well la-dee-da. Looks like someone finally decided that multi-millions of dollars was finally good enough for him. I do think Crabtree will have one or two big games (two at most) for the Niners this season, but overall I think it’s going to be a lot of hype for no payout. I mean, the guy hasn’t played in a football game in 10 months, hasn’t even met his teammates yet, and has no idea what the playbook looks like. Couple that with him being a rookie receiver and having to adjust to the NFL game, and it means that all this hoopla is going to be over nothing in the long run.
