Oh No, What Have I Done?!

Well, thanks you very much, Dictionary.com. That’s exactly the kind of word I was looking for.

Here’s the scoop: I’m playing in a money fantasy baseball league with a bunch of experts from SI.com. I’m the new guy, the non-expert who’s just trying to not look like an a-hole to these guys that definitely know what they are doing.

There are 15 teams which makes the talent pool very thin. There are no sleepers because everyone already knows about them.

At the end of the first week, I was dead last. And not even close to not being dead last. My team wasn’t hitting, it wasn’t pitching, and it just wasn’t producing.

Yesterday I started the day in third place. I was on top of the world! So what do I do? Make a trade that I immediately regret.

I traded Jay Bruce for Yunel Escobar and Ty Wigginton (and dropped Brandon Wood in the process). What. The. HELL!

Jay Bruce is a young OF that got off to a bit of a slow start, but was really starting to come along. I like him. I was glad he was on my team. Why is he gone?

I don’t need a SS. I already have Rollins (who is injured but soon to return) and JJ Hardy (not great, but better than Escobar has been this season). Wigginton I like because he’s hitting well and has multiple position eligibility.

I now hate myself for making that trade. Here’s how everyone fared yesterday:

New Guys

Escobar: 1 for 5, 1 R (on my bench)

Wigginton: 1 for 3, 1 R (now my starting 1B)

Not terrible, but also not great.

Old Guys

Bruce: 2 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB

Wood: 3 for 4, HR, 2 R, 1 RBI

I ended the day in 8th place.

Unless these new guys start hitting well, I’m going to be dwelling on this all season.
