I’m not a huge NBA fan.
There. I said it.
I’m a sports guy, so I try to keep tabs on most athletic competitions going on throughout the year. But in terms of being an actual fan of the league I come up quite short. I don’t follow things too closely until playoffs and even then I don’t make a concerted effort to actually watch the games until the conference finals.
But I have to had it to David Stern and his minions, they have give us some really entertaining NBA Finals. Now, I’m not getting all caught up in all the history between the franchises or the ‘once in a lifetime’ vibe that everyone is putting out with it being Lakers/Celtics Game 7.
Every game that I have tuned in for has been very exciting. No disappointments on any level…and I don’t even have that much invested in the sport! Imagine how great this must be for people that eat, sleep, and breathe the NBA. But since I’m not them, I’ll have to give you the highlights from a casual fan’s perspective. Here are the 10 Things I’ll Miss the Most from the 2009/2010 NBA Finals. Enjoy!
10. An excuse to get drunk
Now drinking is a sport I can get behind! But having the finals be so entertaining/historically relevant has given me a great excuse to get together with people and drink. And I’ll never shy away from a perfectly good excuse to tip a couple back. Wedding? Toast the bride and groom! Funeral? Toast the departed! Circumcision? Toast…well, maybe that’s a bit far.
9. An excuse to hate on Boston
I do not like the Red Sox. I do not like the Patriots. I do not like Boston sports teams. Having the Celtics be front and center in the sphere of sports has allowed me more opportunities to rip on Boston sports. Although, I really have to hand it to the Boston fans for…
8. The anti-Laker chants in Boston
Wow. Just wow. I thought it couldn’t get any better than chanting ‘ug-ly sis-ter’ at Lamar Odom. Then they started chanting ‘no means no’ at Kobe. I really have to hand it to you, Massholes, you knocked that one out of the park. Which actually segues nicely to…
7. Easy jokes about Kobe raping things
Easy? Yes. Still funny to me? You bet your sweet ass!
6. No one talking about Brett Favre
Well, until I just did. Shit. But with the NBA actually delivering a compelling product in its championship series, we’re not inundated with talk of ‘will he or won’t he’ concerning Favre. Oh, sure, we’ll be completely bombarded by it by mid-July, but at least we made it that long!
5. Ron Artest
I had a little fun at Ron-Ron’s expense last week, but the guy is unpredictable, which makes it fun for people to watch. Will he hoist up another terrible shot? Will that shot somehow go in?! You never really know.
4. LA sports fans look like we care
The Lakers are probably the biggest sports deal in Los Angeles…as long as they’re winning. When they are, everyone here is a Laker fan through and through. It was great to see the Staples Center rocking in Game 6, instead of just a forum for people to be seen (unlike the Great Western Forum, which ironically was not a forum for much of anything).
3. Easy smalltalk with co-workers
As much as it pains me, no one I work with wants to talk about the 7 inning gem that My Boy KERSHAW!1! just through. However, every dick for brains that I don’t really like at my work is on the Lakers bandwagon, so we actually say things to each other when trapped in awkward social situations.
2. Charles Barkley
He may be annoying to basketball purists, but to those of us just looking to check out from reality for a couple of hours, he’s a blast. I’ll miss him…until his surefire arrest during the offseason.
1. Jordan vs. Kobe talks
Arguing “who’s better” is a time honored tradition amongst sports fans and this one in particular has really gathered some steam in recent years. I don’t really know/care who is the ‘better’ all-time player between these two, but I love the discussion. I’ll even take whatever side you don’t want. You pro Kobe? I’ll argue for Jordan. You like Jordan? I’ll argue Kobe. It’s amazingly fun.
So, goodbye, NBA Finals, and thanks for all the fun!
Thank you, I’ve just been looking for info approximately this subject for a while and yours is the best I have found out till now. However, what about the bottom line? Are you sure in regards to the supply?
