Recently the NCAA has come under fire for recent “questionable” rulings in relation to Heisman Trophy Winner Cam Newton at Auburn, whose Dad requested $180,000 for his playing services and Terrelle Pryor, who along with 4 other prominent Ohio State Buckeyes sold memorabilia for cash and tattoos. When you take into account all the hoopla surrounding Marvin Austin (and the entire North Carolina program) and the Reggie Bush-USC sanctions, this has been a busy year for the organization charged with governing college athletics. But this is just a single drop in the vast ocean of NCAA history.
Something rarely discussed about the NCAA is their secret past as a shadowy organization that has existed since the dawn of humanity to issue illogical rulings and dispense inconsistent justice. Think of them as the inept Illuminati or a version of the Masons operating as though all their actions could be scored with Yakety Sax. Not to go all Jesse Ventura and Enigma Force 5 on you, but it’s time to ask some questions. As a primer, here are a list of historical NCAA actions that put their 2010 performance to shame:
1215
Attempted to block composition of Magna Carta due to “lack of institutional control.”
1492
Stripped Columbus of his discoveries due to “improper benefits” from King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
1776
Ruled The United States of America “ineligible” for the Revolutionary War, citing “diplomatic non-qualification” for the nation. Case still under investigation.
1919
Overturned Treaty of Versailles, removed blame for World War I and returned reparations to Imperial Germany because Kaiser Wilhelm II was “unaware” war a violation of the rules. Wilhelm would be suspended for the next 5 wars in which he was involved.
haha. Very nice. Should have mentioned the League of Nations, though.
Thank you times a million… soooo funny but the NCAA’s rulings are not funny. They are hurtful only because they hit at the heart of excellance. As a follower of the game, the Reggie Bush thing hurt me cause his life is so about caring for his family and his performance the year he won the Heisman is legendary. He is INSPIRATIONAL! It is damn hard to have things that inspire dirtied by whom???? For what purpose? To discourage us from following the Heisman? Or to not be inspired by excellent endeavors? They should be found out, exposed by some news agency as to their focus and shamed to death. Too bad they have any influence at all. Shame on them for doing this to the heart of College Football and to me too!
Thanks for the creativity here. I fully agree that the NCAA does not dole out any true justice. But then where does one find justice anyway when the most pompus people on the universe are allowed to rule and even more funny, have the audacity to even think that they CAN BE FAIR!!!
I say let them play and back off with these irrelevent rulings…
What a great list. I am not a fan of Ohio State, but I am very upset at the handling of Cam Newton.
