NICK SABAN: Cade, calm down. It’s just practice. And that woman’s going to be fine. CADE: What was she even doing in the bleachers anyway? NICK SABAN: She works on the grounds crew. Said she wanted to know what it was like to sit at the 50-yard line. CADE: I’m going to lose the game for us, Coach. I can just feel it. NICK SABAN: You’re not going to lose the game. You know how I know? CADE: How? Nick Saban stares at him intently. NICK SABAN: Because I can see the future. CADE: Are you joking? Nick Saban keeps staring intently. NICK SABAN: Yes. I am joking. Though now I wish I had asked for that power when I… nevermind. Cade, have a seat. Cade sits down on the bench. Nick Saban climbs up onto it. NICK SABAN: You’re too nervous out there.
The BCS will never be “right.” The only years where people have praised it for “getting it right” were years where only two undefeated teams remained at the end of the year. It doesn’t take a computer to match those two teams against each other. This does not mean that its goal, to pair great teams against each other in bowl games, is not admirable. Yes, their goal is also motivated by the fact that better teams equals better attendance/TV ratings equals more money. But it’s something we both benefit from. The reason this whole thing was created is that before, when seasons ended, we had even less of an idea who the best team in the nation was. Unless two undefeated teams happened to be facing each other in a bowl game because of conference affiliation, you’d still have two undefeated teams when the season ended that never got to play each other. And that’s where my main objection for an LSU/Bama rematch in the title game comes from. When they set-up the BCS system to pair the two best teams in the country in a championship game, I don’t think they ever imagined that the two best teams [...]

College football returns this week, an oasis finally found in the midst of months of wandering through the desert. And even though no games have been played yet, the Associated Press has already ranked the Top 25 teams. Well, that seems silly. But since they went to all that (guess)work, I’ll mention the primary concerns of each team on the list as they prepare for the upcoming season. #1 Oklahoma: Still haven’t figured out a way to hide Bob Stoops’ third chin during TV interviews #2 Alabama: Actually have to try to win another national championship because if they just re-aired the games from two seasons ago at least half of their fans would be smart enough to figure it out #3 Oregon: The snake oil they bought from Willie Lyles doesn’t seem to be making the players run any faster #4 LSU: Personnel issues are stressing Les Miles out so much that he’s biting his fingernails instead of eating grass #5 Boise State: Despite all of their success over the years, Boise still not actually a state #6 Florida State: The law of nature prevents anyone with the name “Jimbo” from being successful at anything that people actually care about #7 Stanford: Andrew [...]

Each player had $50 million to use in an auction draft to acquire six actors and a director that they would then cast in either a remake or an original pitch. The City Too Busy To Hate Directed by Clint Eastwood In 1960′s Atlanta, a mayoral race between the staunch segregationist incumbent and a younger, anti-segregationist (Leonardo DiCaprio) ends in a tie. A committee is formed to make the decision, but one of the pro-segregationists goes missing. Fearing that he’s been kidnapped by extreme political forces within the black community, the other segregationists (led by Jeff Bridges) hire an African-American private investigator (Denzel Washington) to find him before the vote deadline. The PI investigates the missing politician’s naive wife (Anne Hathaway) and his insidious mistress (Christina Hendricks) along with the seemingly peaceful leader of the black political movement (Morgan Freeman) as he searches for the truth.
